Our Programs
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, DHF prioritizes working with deaf/hard of hearing people in our community who lack financial resources through support that is tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Qualified recipients are guided through their hearing journey with compassionate case management and responsive attention to the resources and services needed. Recipients receive hearing healthcare services through our collaborative partnerships with medical providers and speech therapists, who ensure the highest quality of care. Throughout the process recipients are encouraged to connect with our community support groups and offered resources specific to their needs.
Our History
In 1996 a local Otologist/Neurotologist, Dr. B. Robert Peters, was inspired to create a foundation that would help bring sound to life for those who could not afford life-changing technology. After passionately advocating for his deaf/hard of hearing patients, Dr. Peters secured an initial donation from a compassionate benefactor and founded the Dallas Hearing Foundation in 1997. Working together with a team of medical professionals, a manufacturer, and medical facilities that donated their services and products, he implanted his first patient within the first year.

From the very first recipient to the 114 individuals served in 2025, DHF has remained committed to:
- Equipping individuals with hearing loss with the resources, information, and technology needed to lead full, productive, and independent lives.
- Securing a network of community leaders, donors, hearing healthcare providers, and educational professionals with a dedication to serving individuals with hearing loss.
- Educating the general public and those with hearing loss about the life changing hearing technology available today.
- Treating individuals with hearing loss and their families with compassionate understanding and dedicated service.
